NGA’s Code Consultant Nick Resetar of Roetzel & Andress will present an update on the existing legislation and voluntary ordinances at NGA Glass Conference: Tacoma, to help navigate the rules around bird-friendly glazing.
While mandatory and voluntary ordinances to prevent bird-window collisions at government and/or commercial buildings have been adopted by several states, municipalities, and institutions, current codes are regionally implemented and don’t require consistency.
Be a part of potential legislative action
At the conference, the NGA Advocacy Committee will map out next steps for bird-friendly glass legislation, including the reintroduction of the Federal Bird Safe Buildings Act (HR 1986 and S791 of 2021) in the current Congress. For the new bill, NGA will encourage Congress to consider referencing NGA’s Best Practice for Bird Friendly Glazing Design Guide, which provides a basis for consistency in drafting and implementing bird-safe legislation.
